it’s not just working out. It's building a foundation for a better life.
Performing myofascial stretching regularly allows for better posture, increased flexibility, mobility, and strength.
Are you tired of feeling stiff, sore, or out of sync? Myofascial stretching is a proven approach that not only improves your posture and flexibility but also builds strength by working with your body’s natural movement chains.
Our bodies consist of over 600 muscles, each working in concert with surrounding fascia and other muscles. Traditional stretching often isolates one muscle at a time, but myofascial stretching goes a step further. It addresses entire muscular and fascial chains, ensuring that when one muscle is stretched, its supporting muscles and connective tissues are engaged, too. These stretches are also active, meaning that you are training your body to keep this improvement, whereas traditional isolated static stretching feels good at the time but does not teach the body to do something new.
This holistic approach helps maintain proper alignment, balance, and efficient movement in daily activities—from walking to more vigorous exercise.
Why It Matters
When your muscles and fascia work together harmoniously, you experience:
Developed by renowned Osteopath and Orthopedic MD Guy Voyer, myofascial stretching has been a cornerstone at SolCore Fitness and Therapy from the start. With years of educational and practical experience, our certified trainers—like Ekemba Sooh, who holds certifications in all five levels of ELDOA as well as a Soma Trainer (SMTr) and Soma Therapy (SMTh) degree—are committed to guiding you through these life-changing techniques safely and effectively
Myofascial stretching is different from myofascial release, foam rolling, fascia blasting, or other techniques that may harm the fascia.
Myofascial stretching is an active technique that engages the fascial chains in your body by stretching the targeted muscles through their opposing actions. This approach effectively “normalizes” their range of motion and the chain it is within, promoting healthier and stronger fascia and muscles, which in turn leads to improved balance.
In contrast, using a blunt object to apply trauma to the fascia is neither an active nor an integrated method and does not contribute to a healthy, functional body. Such techniques can damage the fascial chains and the tubes within them that facilitate healing and waste removal.
While hands-on myofascial release may offer some benefits, it is essential for the practitioner to know how to reintegrate the fascia back into the body afterward. However, this method has its limitations, as it is not an exercise and cannot retrain the fascial chains to effectively perform their roles.
A more effective approach would be to utilize osteopathic manual therapy (OMT) techniques along with myofascial stretching and segmental muscular strengthening as part of your routine.
At SolCore Fitness and Therapy in Santa Fe—and through our online programs—we incorporate myofascial stretching into personal training and manual therapy sessions.
