A warm-up is essential because your body needs to be in a state that is ready for the workout or activity you are about to take on. If you just jump into an activity or an exercise without it, you will be doing too much too soon and traumatize your body.
And since you want to ready your body for an activity, the one thing you do not want to do is stretch before your activity or workout. Stretching will turn off, and micro tear an area because you are going further than the tissue is used to. And you don’t want a body that is turned off and slightly frayed before doing something that needs as much solicitation as possible. You will not function at your best, and you will possibly get hurt.
